It would be like calling an airline for a ticketed flight to make a change and them saying that the flight is sold out now so you can't change your itinerary. What they would say instead is that your fare bucket is gone, but here are your optoins to stay on the flight. I would understand all of this if I were trying to add a night (room category sold out, sorry no dice) but to not allow me to cancel and rebook my same room category AT A DIFFERENCE PRICE / terms as an IT issue, not a policy issue.
If that room category has gone up in price I realize I would need to pay more for it... or perhaps there's no option to use points... but the issue is I cannot keep my ocean view room as I booked the last one and the system isn't sophisticated enough to "see" that inventory when it's doing a new date / rate search.
Do you see my point here? Anyway looks like I will either have to change my room category (non ocean view) or just pay for a night I'm not going to use.
First time I ever heard anyone call Bonvoy IT sophisticated; nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck and since it is a view issue you seem to be having, perhaps you can re-book and then contact the hotel for some $$ accomodation to sweeten the outcome.
