For work travel, Acela. For personal travel, NE Regional unless there’s a really exceptional deal on the Acela (which does happen occasionally). For some reason, my company has no issue with the exorbitant Acela fares even while having fairly annoying first class policies generally. And Acela is marginally better, slightly faster and supposedly prioritized during service disruptions.

And compared to flying it’s nice to be able to roll in 10 minutes before departure and just sit and work for 3 hours rather than dealing with security, traffic and the general hassle of EWR, LGA or JFK. (Not to mention the carbon emissions intensity of those short flights which at least at my company has become at least a point of discussion, if not a decisive one).

I really wish United had doubled down on its Amtrak partnership rather than axing it…
