CW flights are often quite expensive nowadays and F relatively little more.
You certainly would never get an AUP (or probably a POUG) at that price and UUA is around 25k avios so similar value to £250 so I think you made a very smart move.
A big advantage of BAH is they seem to be very flexible about enforcing change fees which is something you generally won't get with a flight-only booking.
I asked if my return from DFW - LHR would be a similar price to upgrade to F but was told, at the time, that it would be considerably more. However, the agent did suggest asking at the airport or the gate as the price might be cheaper depending on availability I guess.
