Exclamation Denied Boarding for Zurich Self Transfer - What are My Options?

I was denied boarding earlier today for my flight from LAX - Zurich - IST. I had two separate reservations with Swiss Air(LAX - ZRH) and Turkish Airline (ZRH - IST). I have a Chinese passport and US green and do not have a Schengen Visa, however, after reading a couple articles online, I was under the impression that as long as you have a Swiss transit visa (or exempt from needing a transit visa), you could stay in the Zurich airport for 24 hours for connections. I didn't have any checked bags and since Turkish and Swiss are both star-alliance, I thought there would be no problems for finding the tickets in Air Swiss's system.

Unfortunately things didn't come to plan and now after some extensive research, I understand that I was at the mercy of the gate agent wether they let me on the flight or not. They seemed very unfamiliar about the transit rules, refused to listen to my explanation about transit visa and My question being that what could I do now to minimize my losses?

My LAX-Zurich leg was booked with Aeroplan using Air Canada Points and ZRH-IST using cash with Turkish airline. Are there anyways I could get my points back or be rebooked for a later flight? If so, who should I contact, Aeroplan or Swiss Air?

Thanks in Advance.
