You will need to add the license plate, though. Right when you get to your rental, sign in to your I-PASS account and add the vehicle. If you do this right away it'll be in the system when you're heading out. Don't forget to remove it again upon returning it....
Unfortunately, the last I rented in Florida and the last time I rented in MA, the rental car plate was already in the EZ-Pass system and it wouldn't accept it. Apparently folks don't take them out that reliably.
Nevertheless, the FL tolls came through just fine (even the Alligator Alley tolls!) on my account. No matter where I've rented... NY, MA *and* FL, as long as *my* tag is up in the windshield and *their* tag is in it's cozy little closed box, the tolls reliably show up on my account. Yes, even the Ted Williams tunnel... (sigh)
