"change of route" available as an option on Krisflyer. SQ/KF needs to make it more obvious if it isn't a real option.
Yes booking two awards will avoid the problem. In some places (e.g. Japan), R/T YQ is lower than O/W, so booking two O/Ws is not a super intuitive thing to do unless you were told about the FFP (KF)'s quirks on changes.
