I've just reached BA Silver status, which is showing when I log into my BAEC account. I'm now trying to reserve seats for two existing bookings but am still being asked to pay to reserve seats. I've logged in and out a few times but it still says "You can pay to reserve your seats now" and shows a price for each seat.
I thought I should be able to reserve seats for free. Is there a problem doing this on existing bookings made when I was Bronze?
Perhaps. You might try contacting BA, asking them to remove your BAEC number from the booking, and then asking them to reinstate your BAEC number in the booking. Alternatively, you might be able to remove the number yourself via a partner's "Manage My Booking" page (some people use Finnair's site for this purpose). If that is successful, then try pulling up the booking at ba.com, and restoring your BAEC number there.
