The shuttle is free (both ways) as long as you have a room booked at the Novotel.
For someone using that underground passageway for this first time, it feels pretty long, especially when you pass by that final area with all the abandoned and gutted shops...definitely feels like you're going the wrong way when you reach that strange area. Once you've done it back and forth twice, of course it will feel shorter and faster.
