SInce the OP has indicated that they find BA's seat fees outrageous, and that they are happy to sit apart from their partner if necessary (though I suspect they will have seats together), it would seem they take a different view on this.

​​​​​Each to their own of course, but I would count myself amongst those who would find many better uses for the money at my destination.

(As a minor aside, F seating should always be free, excepting 1A/K until closer in to the flight, even for those with no status)
