What is the best way to “pay” for flights with C1 Venture X if wanting to use points ultimately?

1. Use points at checkout at .01/point (so 10k for $100 flight)
2. Pay with card and redeem points at .01 for travel purchase

If I’m understanding the benefits correctly, a $100 ticket would earn 500 points and would cost 10k to cover at statement. So effectively this saves 500 points. Is that right?

Do the same kinds of travel insurance protections exist for both?
