I now see a mistake in my thinking: I am not the only basic economy pax on the flight, so that a lot of currently free seats will likely be assigned to other BE passengers at T-24.
I dont know about DL seat reservations but on BA, when I've bought a specific seat, I've been able to change it any time. Assuming of course it was equal in cost, more expensive and I'd need to pony up more.
everyone will be assigned a seat at T24. If you're BE its the luck of the draw on the one you get.
