I got a bit of a shock when I investigated award pricing Mid-November YOW-Stockholm for my adult son who wishes to visit the World Junior Hockey Tournament. For the first time since I tried booking post "dynamic pricing" the cost came out totally reasonable; even using the least number of points the price in J came out less than economy (33K points one way). There seem to be a a variety of routes/connections then all at the relatively reasonable cost. Speculating about the reason could be the flights were just loaded or no one is flying mid-November -- when it came time to select his seat, he could pick any one in the cabin. (Comparing this to the usual story -- flights planned to LHR mid October have the usual outrageous dynamic points costs; so I'll need to fiddle around with E-upgrades or, gulp, even paying the actual cash fare for a business class ticket.)
