Well I must be the unlucky one with Amex customer service. They said there is nothing they can do and I need to call BA. They said if I want to stop the money coming out of my account is to cancel my direct debit and manually pay the lesser amount. Seems like a total faff when I know they can just hold the transactions on their end.

Not looking forward to now calling BA and waiting for hours.
