If you have no status with either airline, it's best to book directly with the operating carrier. That way, it will be much easier to deal with unexpected irregular operations, such as delays, misconnections or cancellations.
Unless you are trying to get points on DL, which is sounds like isn't a major concern, as noted above, book AF for that specific reason.
