We're not in town very long and don't have too much time to venture out for just food, so minimizing subway stops is the goal. We're planning for some time in red hook, but no concrete plans yet.
So far on my pizza list is Keste (neopolitan).
Place's like Una, Joe's on Bleecker, Song are mostly out of the way, but a good NYC pizza example (already have neopolitan covered) that's convenient is more likely for us.
Adrienne's Pizzabar on Stone St in FiDi is absolutely fantastic and is sure to impress. If you have the time, I highly recommend checking out John's on Bleecker as well. It's just a short subway ride away, so it would be a shame not to give it a try.
Prince St Pizza, which surprisingly hasn't been mentioned much, has gained quite a bit of fame and there's always a line there. Their Pepperoni Squares are hands down some of the best slices I've ever tasted. While their regular slices are above average, it's the Pepperoni Square that takes it to a whole new level.
Speaking as someone who's lived in the city all my life, I must admit I've never been particularly blown away by Joe's. It's incredibly overhyped and simply average. I can find equally good slices at numerous independent pizza places or even the popular "Little Italy" chain that's scattered throughout the city.
Lastly, I'd like to recommend Rubirosa. They serve fantastic Italian food and their pizza is top-notch.
