I really loved the Westin Kuala Lumpur - even in my "Executive Residence" ;-) Seriously, while the property isn't perfect, you can tell the hard and soft product here has heart. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Note: The apartments and hotel rooms are in the same tower - the apartments are on floors 6 to 13 and the hotel rooms occupy 15 and above. The hotel floors have four elevators, and the residences have two elevators and a separate side entrance option. Both elevator banks access the club on floor 3 directly.

Pros:
  • Upgraded to a 1 Bedroom Apartment after initially only seeing an upgrade to a High Floor Club King - I saw limited availability on the Hotel Suites online the night before arrival and was assured at check-in that Elites prefer the residences - I'm not sure that's true, but I liked my apartment :-)
  • I liked the apartment design - nice wood floors
  • The kitchen has a full refrigerator, microwave, and stove top - not that I used them, expect for the fridge (yum cold water)
  • The Heavenly bed was fantastic - plush mattress, plush pillows, and plush covers (the perfect plushness for KL)
  • The furniture was comfortable - especially the living room couch
  • Nice separate office nook
  • Shower pressure was quite funny - the rainfall head is very calm / weak, but the wand is like a pressure washer - use the wand - it's very cleansing and can be angled steadily for down angles
  • Brought a nice welcome gift of a box of chocolates and a box of crisp cookies
  • Even on the 9th floor, you have a nice city view of Menara KL
  • Hotel staff was a major standout - friendly front desk, greeted by both the concierge and FOM
    • The FOM, Kumar, was a delight - we had a 20 minute conversation in the club (he said he would see me there at evening service) about our families, traveling, hotels, air travel, and the funny sights of the designer stores across the street
    • The HM, Rajesh, also came up at the club and then later came up at checkout to ask me which hotel is next - when he heard that it was Hotel Stripes, he provided an unprompted recommendation of a nearby highly-ranked pizza restaurant (a Westin that recommends pizza - my heaven!)
  • The club lounge offering was quite nice
    • Lovely cakes at afternoon tea
    • The chocolate cake at evening service was to die for - so moist and rich!
  • Breakfast is either in the restaurant or club - I ate in the restaurant and then visited the club
    • Interestingly, the club had hashbrowns while the restaurant didn't - both seemed to have egg stations
    • The made to order cheese omelets were quite good along with the croissants
    • The pancakes were decent - though, pancakes in Thailand are definitely better than in pancakes in KL
    • Yummy strawberry ice cream
  • Offered late checkout proactively - no issue with 3 PM that I requested
  • I'm really happy the hotel lobby provides the time in Maryland
  • Seemed like the best linen quality and stain control I have seen in KL so far
  • Love the slide-in key cards
Cons:
  • External noise isolation is very weak - this did not bother me or cause any issues with my long sleep - if you were a light sleeper, it probably would
  • No Internet streaming apps on the TVs
Overall, I look forward to my next visit to the Westin KL.
