To be honest, US airports might be a good place to try. Americans tend to be quite chatty at times, and loads of solo travellers (especially outside the lounges) are about (married or have partners, I don't know).
I'm not sure "hit on people at US airports because they're American and by themselves" is ideal, either, but I appear to be fighting a losing fight here.
