Is it worth running? (35min layover vs 3h)
Hi all,
I'm doing Cork - Amsterdam - Munich with KLM in the next couple of weeks. Unforaunately this was not possible without a 3hr layover, long but manageable. I don't have lounge access (only Silver).
I discovered recently that there is an earlier Munich - Amsterdam flight, which departs only 35mins after my Cork - Amsterdam flight is due to land. This isn't marketed as a connection as it is only 35 minutes, less than the 40 minutes minimum that you can purchase on the KLM website. The Cork - Amsterdam flight uses a bus gate but as I'm Silver I'll be far enough forward to be on the first bus, and with a favourable passport queue (NS - S) and EGates with hand luggage only I have managed to get from Flight A to Flight B in 20 minutes before. So getting from my arrival gate to the earlier Munich flights departure gate in 35 minutes is technically possible.
Of course I know anything can happen on the day, but is it worth running and giving this a go? If I get to the earlier Amsterdam - Munich flight say, 15 minutes, 20 minutes before departure to find it open, is there any chance at that stage they'll let me on the earlier flight as standby if I explain things? Or is that not an option, or does it depend on the mood of the gate staff. Will they just tell me to FO and wait my three hours.
If there is a chance to get on the earlier Munich flight I'll rush, but if I know I'll have the 3hr transfer I'll take my precious time.
Anyone any experience with this?
