Convert A PAL Play Station 2 To Also Play NTSC Format Games

Hi,
I have a friend in Europe that has a Play Station 2 which is set up to play PAL format games/DVD. They received an NTSC (North American) format game for Xmas, and the PAL oriented Play Station 2 will not play it.

Does anyone know of a way to cet up a Play Station 2 to play both formats, or to switch it back and forth? Most of the games this person has are PAL, but they have this one NTSC game. Thanks..
