Thanks to all for the replies. I'm not actually worried about this vis-a-vis Chase -- although the comments are nonetheless reassuring. It's more of an internal housekeeping matter for me, I like knowing how many points I actually have available at a glance without doing a bunch of math in my head. If it were a negative balance in a bank account I'd just transfer money over and the balance would immediately be made right. But the point accounting system at Chase appears to be a bit more complicated, in that point adjustments appear to be made just once a month. So perhaps I'll just stick with the "let it be" advice here.
