Holiday Inn - Reading West

Holiday Inn - Reading West
This UK hotel is near the villages of Padworth and Beenham, a few miles SW of Reading. It was commandeered as a quarantine hotel during Covid and returned to tourist use last summer. Several elements of the hotel were refurbished over winter.

What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - it fits my needs perfectly. I last stayed here 10 months ago, switching to another hotel later in the year as the air-con was broken.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked "1 Double Bed Premium Single Sofa Bed" (which used to be called an Executive Room), received the same. Both suites in the property had already been booked.

How are the rooms?
Pretty generic Holiday Inn rooms, really - a bath/shower combo, a bed with four pillows, a sofabed, chair, desk and so on.
I last stayed here 10 months ago and the rooms have been refreshed - there was a new mini bar, with complimentary KitKat, Mars Bar, 500ml water and cans of Pepsi and Pepsi Max. There was also a coffee machine with Illy pods, a kettle with teabags, hot chocolate and Nescafe, and some oaty cookies.
The air-con is brand new and was very effective.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/a

What was good and what was bad?
Good - the receptionist welcomed me by name as I walked up to the desk, she remembered me after all that time! I was very impressed.
My room was ready half an hour before the normal checkin time.
A large selection of goodies in the room: sweets, biscuits and fizzy drinks are right up my street!
Room service has been revamped, you order by app and it comes half an hour later. The selection has been improved, with plenty of options for meals, desserts and drinks.
The aircon, which had been broken for years, had been replaced with a new system.
The reception area has had a spruce up and now looks very modern.
A large free carpark.

Bad - the few remaining bits of old decor, dating back to the 90s, are now looking very tired. You only get to see them briefly when going to and fro from your room, though, so it's not a biggie.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I paid £133 for a room on a 5,000 point bonus point package. I was happy enough with that and will be returning in July. (It's fully booked that day, so will be interesting to see how they cope).
