I'm concerned that maybe we're shortchanging the town? But looking at maps/reviews, there's a main street of shopping, and....

Truly, I have plenty of time to adjust our trip, I just want to know what I'm not "getting"?
You posted a long time ago, but I thought I would reply to say that I spent 2 nights in Jackson last fall and almost booked this hotel, but didn't, due to what seemed like crazy room rates for the relative off season. (Got a beautiful 2 bedroom condo for like 250 a night instead, parking included.)

I loved the location of Jackson and can totally see it being a base for a week. The drive time to everything around is really quite reasonable and I, like many, prefer to unpack and return "home" on trips instead of doing a series of one nighters unless it truly is a road trip.

But I hated Jackson itself. It seemed like a magnet for ornery affluent people who eat bland tacos with forks and knives and go to bed at 9pm. The "nightlife" in town was laughable. Of course, Jackson seems to be attracting plenty of the folks it wants to attract, but that ain't me. Sounds like it might not be you either. I will likely still come back for the parks and recreation, but I am quite content to get a condo up on Snow King mountain and avoid Jackson proper.
