Would I select an airline based off it? No. But any cuts to beverage service or improvements do give a wider indicator of where the airline wants to position themselves.
Spot on. I typically decline to eat in CE on short flights these days but the quality of the meals is similarly a good indicator of how BA sees the future of CE.
