I have the opposite problem. I never try and engage in conversation with people I don’t know and I have always been totally incapable of noticing if anyone is actually interested in me.

On an AA flight last year a member of cabin crew kept talking to me and I thought she was providing exceptional service. When I went to the bathroom she gave me her phone number, which I thought was a little odd. We were travelling internationally and I thought based on our conversations she may just want more advice on where to go for a good experience on her layover having never been before. The other cabin crew smiled.

It was only when I told my wife about this strange encounter she pointed out to me that I’d just been chatted up.
