Are you trying to request while checking in? Or did you already check in and then decide after you wanted to standby? The option to standby disappears after you’ve checked in, and you need to take a bit of a circuitous route to get there (although can’t quite remember the path off the top of my head). Not sure if this has always been the case but noticed this on a flight yesterday.
