On a flight they look at the upgrade list but aren't keeping notes and screenshots tracking the order by the minute and interrogating agent as to why person number 4 is now person number 2 on the list. Upgrades happen, it's nice when it does. I count myself lucky that most of my travel now I can achieve in a day trip and I'll take that 5am outbound and get home at midnight to avoid a hotel stay.
Still one can't fault the customer when travel related companies choose to dangle loyalty benefits to gain more business and some customers strongly insist the rules be adhered to. To make matters worse, Hilton's ug policy could easily be shortened to "Maybe you'll get an upgrade, a fake upgrade, or no upgrade. It's completely at the property's discretion and inventory is irrelevant".".
Hilton would not have been my default as often as it was were it not for HHonors. As it is, they've disappointed me one too many times domestically. I can buy Hilton Diamond status now (for my overseas stays) , and even buy points for the occasions they make the rate cheaper than cash.
Hilton [removed masked profanity per FT Rules] found out, driving me and my 100+ domestic nights straight to IHG, the domestic property status benefits of which thus far have been a delight. Feels like what Diamond at Hilton was like 5+ years ago.
