It's also a very successful tactic though as many passengers are unaware of the alliance lounge agreements and how Star Alliance works.
I've always assumed that having a status that grants lounge access would allow me to use any alliance lounge as long as I was flying any alliance flight. So for example, flying LO from Heathrow I can go to any *A lounge inside T2.
I remember a few years back I was flying QR from Singapore in Y, got a lounge invite for DNATA lounge, but instead of going there I just went to the Qantas First class lounge and got in without issues.
I reckon flying SK out of Warsaw one would still be able to access Polonez, it's just airline decided they prefer to send their own pax into a contract lounge, no?
