Any experiences out of EWR? Flying out next week in J and my rollaboard is about inch too tall (9" vs 8") and probably a hair over the weight limit.

I'd check a bag but I'm arriving just under 4.5 hours in advance, and it looks like TP doesn't open their check and desks until 3.5 hours in advance, so I'd rather just escape to the club rather than twiddle my thumbs for an hour waiting for the desk to open.

Edit: do the gate checking charges still apply if we have a free bag in our allowance? I namely just want to avoid paying 100 plus dollars to get Chucky bag that I could have gotten for free, but don't want to wait an hour at the ticketing desk to do so.
