Likewise, I always not choose row 1 - but 2, and as soon as I‘m seated, I extend my leg and foot down the seat in front of me to discourage strange people putting stuff invading my feet & leg room.

And BTW, if someone you made it invaded my leg and teet room, you will for sure find my feet stepping on top of your belongings.
