That sounds a little too good to be true, but I'll go along with it. I've every expectation of making the flight, just need a little safety net due to reasons I won't go into. So I'll book and hope it all goes as planned.
She also said the difference between semi flexible and fully flexible is that 'semi' is kept in the 'store credit' type arrangement, and 'fully' is eligible for full refund to credit card. Just in case anyone reads this later due to having a similar question.

Actually, the "credit" system works well. I had to do that on a trip late last year. I'm using the credit on a totally new itinerary over the 4th of July weekend. It is stored in your AAdvantage account and you will be able to see the "credit" when you login to your account along with the expiration date of the credit.
