It appears that in Timatic (at least the IATA TravelCentre one), PRC's HRP was listed as Hui Xiang Zheng (that's phonetic reading of HRP in Mandarin). Timatic will then clear the entry issue at China side when the nationality is chosen as China, but will show UK side requires visa (your passport's nationality should then resolve this).

Do note that in using HRP, you need to be seen yourself as Chinese nationals not foreigners for China border purpose - without involving politics, that's the precondition for issuing a HRP, and is a common issue for Hong Kong residents having nationalities on top of Chinese nationality (though PRC don't care much and issue them anyway).

Also, the current HRP has included an one-and-only English statement stating: "THIS CARD IS INTENDED FOR ITS HOLDER TO TRAVEL TO THE MAINLAND OF CHINA", which might help somehow.

In any case, do allow sufficient time at check-in and tell agents of the HRP as entry permit for PRC border purpose, as I can imagine the check in agents might need to escalate before you are allowed check in.
