Finishing a stay here and echo all the comments. The hotel is themed as an explorers hotel based on history of Mr Ivens and Mr Capelo. Hence, the various artifacts throughout the hotel including a huge cockroach (model) on my wall next to the thermostat!

The staff were all outstanding. Rocco for breakfast as an elite is one of the best complimentary/benefits I’ve had in my 25 years of many high end Marriott (and Hilton) properties. At night the bar is hopping with DJ, and dinner is served at bar or restaurant late into the evening.

I did not get an upgrade due to full capacity, but that’s the deal going in. It’s based on availability at check in and the hotel was full and charging 1000EUR/night versus my advance booking of 500EUR. So, I don’t generally take issue when I don’t get the upgrade. The room was fine for wife and I, and it has probably the best water pressure in shower and sink I’ve had in a long time at a hotel.

Location is very good, though be ready to go up and down a lot of steps and hills as you come and go from the hotel to explore town on foot. The 28E trolley is a few blocks away and is a must do experience if you want to get down into the shopping district or over to old town.
