Something is definitely broken. Why block you out of paying for an upgrade just because your on the comp upgrade list., that's pretty poor business for AA, just relying on infrequent travelers to pay for upgrades but blocking out all status holders. I have the same problem, I get email paid upgrade invites for every flight I take, but no way to accept them.
