We are flying LHR>DFW in a few weeks on BA193 and are connecting to an AA domestic flight. We have a 2.5hr layover. Based on last experience immigration at Terminal D can easily take over 2 hours to clear, and that’s before you’ve picked up your luggage, loaded it onto the other belt, and gone through security. I’m pretty nervous a) about the general tardiness of BA193 (often late, occasionally cancelled as discussed elsewhere) and b) that even if we arrive at DFW on time 2.5hrs is cutting it too tight.
In theory there is no ‘fast track’ that you can pay for at US immigration and so they won’t advertise it. In practice they often take you to the area used for assistance passengers which can be quicker. If you are connecting to AA you could look at their 5 star service which uses the CK team although I am not sure if it ever restarted at DFW.
If you are going to miss a connection anywhere though DFW should be able to sort it out without too much delay although at that time of day you are probably looking at an overnight stay (book the Grand Hyatt/ not Hyatt Regency, I won’t make that mistake again, and claim it yourself is my suggestion but you need to be prepared to cover the cost if they (the airline) or your insurer don’t). To my mind the bigger risk is a delay on the A380 as opposed to immigration. The later you are though the quieter immigration will be.
Oh, and God bless GE.
