I've generally never had an issue checking-in a bag earlier in the day - sometimes 12+ hours early. HOWEVER - there are a few handful of airports that do not accept bags earlier than 4 hours prior to departure; I learned that the hard way.

You can't check bags more than 4 hours before departure when flying from:
  • Charleston (CHS)
  • Denver (DEN)
  • Fort Lauderdale (FLL)
  • Honolulu (HNL)
  • Jacksonville (JAX)
  • Kahului (OGG)
  • Kansas City (MCI)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Ontario (ONT)
  • Orlando (MCO)
  • Portland, Oregon (PDX)
  • Salt Lake City (SLC)
  • Seattle (SEA)
  • Tampa (TPA)
