I used to always do this in Sydney, as it saves the long lines and the $2 "airport" fee taxis here charge at the regular airport rank.
They just announced that this is now banned due to "security reasons" (go figger) and drivers now face a $5000 penalty for taking a fare in the drop off zone. So of course none will.
Are there no such restrictions in the USA airports?
