Cat 1-4 worth at most $350-$400. Beyond Hyatt Place and House, Hyatt has few "budget" properties. Many people will pay 4 or 5 higher rates (than other options in the area) for Captions, Thompsons or Dreams or whatever brand just to get another brand toward one of these awards.
Granted, some people will earn these awards via their usual travel but they’re likely in the minority. It’s doubtful this is loss leader for Hyatt, the proof is in the pudding.
The relative lack of interest on this thread (it’s much shorter than other threads about other Hyatt awards and promotions) is evidence that FTers are savvy enough to see it for what it is.
Actually, Dreams in NYC is on the lower end of the pricing so you can pick up a badge
and save money. Now Thompsons and Andaz are on the higher end and so what I do to get those sorts of badges is use points to get them. There is a way to play the game and get great value while also getting a free night award. I'm surprised to hear your take - playing the game and getting value is what FT is all about.
