I have also - if you accept the buy-up in the app only on one leg as well. This makes ZERO sense... until you remember this is AA IT. If it looks like F is getting full on the outbound, but wide open on the return, I might pay for the OB upgrade. Sometimes, I would like to pay for the return upgrade later, but I guess AA does not want that revenue. Like many things on AA... just stupid.
