This USA<>CAN comparison between pay is ridiculous and an ALPA ploy to fire up members. We all know those in the USA earn more than in Canada for above-basic occupations (unless you're in government job in Canada), that taxes in Canada are higher, the taxpayer subsidized education for flying produces less of a risk for a Canadian cadet pilot in school, that the economic reality in Canada is so poor; the CAD is 35% below USD; the nation is incapable of building housing despite unlimited lumber and unlimited land; resources that the nation produces are taxed to its own citizens which means less disposable income to catch flight; over regulation driving up costs, et. al.. I am sick and tired of the comparisons it ignores the greater risk that US cadet pilots take to get trained, the higher GDP-per-capita that US units of labor produce compared to Canadian units, and the fact that there is tremendously higher demand for seats on US airlines than Canada which has a currency 35% cheaper because it struggles to produce anything.

I agree with you on this with WestJet employees, excepts their pilots. WestJet pilots have a skill that’s in demand worldwide, therefor, they should be paid that way. If not, they will continue to lose pilots to other airlines, which will be the end of Westjet, as we know it. Brian drain is a big problem in Canada.
