I really can't complain about upgrades as a Diamond. It's pretty standard to get at least a one-category upgrade and sometimes more. I would only expect a suite if booking one category below that. I've generally been happy.
Thanks for reminding me of that, I have had good success (only once where hotel was full) booking the category directly below suites and getting the suite if available
