Following my confession that I too was attempting the AC seat gamble today. I can confirm that middle seat was indeed empty at boarding and nobody was hurt/harmed/upset at our actions.

Infact three out of the four exit row seats also had empty middle seats on todays low loaded (Finnair) flight from Malaga.
