Slightly off-topic but there is also a dedicated high class pottery shop area in Eastern Kyoto. It is some (not walking) distance from the Kyomizu temple mountain and includes both shops selling more industrial ware and high-end ateliers with unique artifacts. For friends of the Raku style there is a dedicated Raku museum in a quiet side street near the Imperial Palace grounds. To get back on topic this area hosts many cozy neighbourhood Izakayas with tasty seasonal menus and the atmosphere at night is almost like it must have been in more secluded times.
