One thought is that these days HPN is much more of an originating market than a destination, and for local residents, United doesn’t offer a good value proposition compared to AA, DL or B6. Westchester and suburban CT residents are much more likely to prefer JFK/LGA to EWR, so their choice for HPN is more likely to be an airline that can also provide them greater options from the NYC airports east of Hudson.
