If you’re just looking for a place to crash Hyatt Place is just fine. Even as an explorist, they “upgraded” me to a nicer view high floor room with lanai. Great way to burn category 1-4 certificates. I’ve parked at the Waikiki shell overnight (for free) before and walked the 10 minutes to the hotel. The breakfast is decent but gets old after a few days and Waikiki is full of wonderful restaurants. Drawback is it’s a little walk to the “higher end” shops and restaurants near Moana Surfrider/ Royal Hawaiian. But there’s often less traffic/ easier to get in and out of.

Burning some Marriott cents at the Laylow later this year but Hyatt place is just fine if you’re using Waikiki to sleep in. If you’re centering your vacation around Waikiki and spending lots of time in the room I would go for something nicer.
