When I spotted a First Class from LAX to HKG, I called and the rep put it on hold while I transferred the Amex points. The transfer was immediate, she deducted the points and sent me a link to pay the $144 in taxes. Did not transfer anything until I had the flight on hold. I was surprised she stayed on the line until the transaction was completed.
