Navigating an airport, keeping track of baggage, dealing with IRROPS, sometimes navigating through customs, dealing with baggage claim, sometimes navigating mass transit, particularly in a new area: alcohol doesn’t help with any of that. At all.
Flying is just about the only time I drink alcohol anymore for precisely the reasons you cite
