And the other wonderful surprise, one that wasn’t apparent to me at all as I booked our JL41 HND-LHR return on the BA portal, is that everyone, even us plebs at the back, gets access to the lounge where you can fill up on as much food and drink as you like before boarding. Only discovered this perk after having booked.
Turns out there are ways of cutting back on onboard catering that can be agreeable to customers.
I think it’s just JAL full fare economy that gets access to JAL operated lounges, unless recent changes. Partially stemming from the fact that many Japanese companies have economy only travel policies even for long flights and senior ppl.
IMO the best timings are the ~7pm JAL/ANA departures from LHR that arrive ~5pm local time. Flying at ~9am to arrive at ~7am is not the one. And 14hrs in BA business with a bad crew and (IME) 50/50 chance of broken wifi would be an ordeal. But for many dates it’s a £1500+ price difference.
