Think of Schengen like a big domestic Zone.
General rule: If arriving from a clean country (like US, Schengen....) you normally (but there are exceptions) don't need to go security in Europe.
There is a passport control between the Schengen area and the non-Schengen gates.
There are lounges both in the Schengen and the non-Schengen area. You should go to the closest lounge in the area where you depart from.
Thanks so much! Printing this out and putting it with my travel stuff. I usually go non-stop to one European city and don't connect. Also flying from LHR to ZRH and back this Fall. I will be an expert by Christmas! Thanks much and also to worldclubber!
