Will that be too tight for a connection (cannot change as LH only giving me 50-80 minute connections)? What happens if I can’t make the connection? Will I need to pass through security in addition to passport control?

1:15 is not great, but doable if reasonably on-time. No security required, but arrival gate lottery might force you to get one. If you manage to deplane into secure B non-Schengen, follow signs to Z first to take the bus, only then to A (CDG is most likely to leave from A gates). Going straight by signs to A might lead you to the train, which is unsecured.
