Having booked a redemption for a friend as a wedding gift with excellent reviews, I wasn’t able to find a redemption for my own booking at Park Hyatt, so Hyatt concierge made a redemption booking at Grand Hyatt Tokyo (GH) instead. Upon check in at GH, I was assigned a room on the Club floor, which appeared rather drab (combination of having arrived from the superb Hilton LXR Kyoto, and that the room had no real view, was somewhat dark inside, and felt a little tired). Given it was golden week, the GH was running at high occupancy. Feeling rather disappointed with the GH choice, I checked the Hyatt app and by sheer chance (luck!!) the Park Hyatt had become available for the 5 nights on redemption! After a lot of to/fro with the GH Club staff and concierge, GH booking was cancelled, and Park Hyatt was booked (I must say the GH staff were very accommodating and helpful during the process).
Arrived at the Park Hyatt from the GH by taxi around 8pm having made the booking 20 mins before, and entirely different experience - very warm welcome, escorted to check in, given a room upgrade to a larger “view” room (high occupancy, but the room was certainly ample space), and made our way to the 52nd floor bar for a bit of a queue and an excellent evening.
Although clearly dated, the hotel is well maintained like many a “Grande Dame” and was very comfortable - service was top notch, room amenities were excellent (Le Labo toiletries if I recall), room service breakfast fantastic, and the dining at the bar was awesome (truffle pizza and fries are a new favourite!). Concierge also arranged guest list for two other evenings at the bar resulting in a nice queue jump. Spa was wonderful.
I couldn’t fault the service at Park Hyatt Tokyo, and the location although not the most convenient was not really bothersome. I will likely return after re-furb, but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
